Passion & Truth at WAA

The start of a promising journey

Opportunities in creative departments come few and far between, especially during a time of recession, where even more people are fighting for that same break.

When we were lucky enough to be offered a placement at WAA, we snapped it up. We couldn’t wait to get started and two weeks after our portfolio review, we were in. In the first week we were put on three different briefs, switching and prioritising between them depending on the deadline. Using everything we had learnt from our university course and post university experience prepared us for good time management and helped us fit right in with the way they worked. We stayed late, sometimes beyond 9 o‘clock, to finish work for the next day, or helping out the other creatives on projects. And we loved it, we thrived off the pressure. It made us more committed and determined to find that eureka moment!

It was great coming up with our own ideas, but it was also really beneficial seeing how the other creatives worked and seeing their ‘why didn’t I think of that?’ ideas! Trying to work out their thought processes and applying them to our own work definitely helped us progress and it’s something we can take with us throughout our career.

One of the main things we love about advertising is the unexpected. There were of course quiet times, but then you’d get a briefing and be working hard again. That’s what we love: that you’ll be doing something different every day and not knowing what that could be, makes it all the more exciting.

Having a placement that treated you like a member of the team and not an added extra was great, and very rewarding to us. It felt more like a temporary job than a placement as we really got stuck in. Everyone was keen to hear our opinions input and ideas and we tried to do it and get involved at every opportunity. We had our work go in front of clients and received positive feedback from them and Chris our Creative Director.

During our time at WAA we saw an agency that’s continually pushing forward. From the time we got there to the time we left we had seen a big change in WAA and expect big things coming from them in the future. It was great to be a part of WAA’s journey and we’ve gained so much vital experience that we will use in our own.

Nice one guys. Well done on not getting sacked – you did well there. WAA are a hot outfit which I guess is why they hired you both. A well deserved placement chaps.

Now stop blogging for WAA and get back to your own. Have you seen the state of it lately? I've heard it weeping at night because you neglected it so often. Shame on you :-)

Well done once again. Stay sharp boys. x
