Is Birmingham really a poor cousin?

Is it fair to describe Birmingham’s marketing sector as a poor cousin to other UK regions? We don’t think so, and that’s why we teamed up with Marketing Birmingham and Midlands Business Insider recently to debate the topic.

A write up of the discussion was published in the September issue of Midlands Business Insider. Click here to read it.

The view coming from the assembled industry representatives makes for interesting reading to anyone who cares about the region.

Most thought that part of Birmingham’s problem is one of perception – we’re simply not shouting loud enough about ourselves and our achievements. But there was also a concern that too many in the marketing sector aren’t proud of their roots, and that we lack a cohesive sense of community. There was also debate around whether Birmingham’s marketing sector needs to establish itself as a brand and raise its profile through a consistent and singular voice.

All are interesting points and certainly ones that need further exploration.

What do you think?
