Great PR is great for SEO

Keeping an eye on websites within your industry is simply a must and should be a regular activity for SEO companies that are tasked with improving search engine presence. More often then not any SEO worth his salt will tell you to create a website with good, quality content and build relevant links from authoritative sites and directories.
The larger brands can have a massive PR campaign that can dramatically boost rankings without actually doing anything major SEO wise. Liam Gallagher recently launched his very own fashion label called PrettyGreen and the site has a PR5 (a page rank of 5 in Google), which really is no mean feat. All the links are from authority sites like The Daily Telegraph and NME to name just a few. The site is built entirely in flash so there was no thought given to SEO at all. This is not a criticism at all it just goes to prove that a website with a PR5 and no solid SEO techniques can achieve great links and rankings if the PR campaign is first class.
As we all know Liam Gallagher is from one of the most famous indie bands in the world so to be fair almost everything he does will get picked up on. But there are plenty of examples of other types of site that have had great PR coverage and as a result have picked up massive amounts of authority links. Getting these types of links are almost impossible to get in any other instance.
So what does this say? It says that even though offline and online are two separate channels, they actually work very well together as the more buzz you generate offline, through TV or press etc, the better the chance of getting high quality authoritative links to your site.
